By Tornado Staff

The Swedish Government has set aside a total of €640,000 in state funding to put towards completing a national network by 2005. The announcement coincided with figures posted by the Ministry of Finance.

€27.6 million will be made available immediately for local loop networks, whereas a €350 million is destined towards tax relief for both residential and business subscribers.

The Swedish Government has already provided local authorities with €94 million.

Operators do however sustain that the total requirement for national fiber optic network amounts to €6.6 billion, ten times what the government has allocated.
