Germany-based diagnostics company Humedics has closed a Series C financing round of €6.3 million led by two new investors, Vesalius Biocapital Partners and Seventure Partners. All existing backers also participated in this latest round. These include Peppermint VenturePartners, IBB’s VC Fonds Technologie, KfW’s ERP Startfonds, Ventegis and High-Tech Gründerfonds.

Humedics develops systems for mobile measurement of the individual liver function at the bedside of the patient. The company will use the fresh capital for the European market entry of its LiMAx test and FLIP diagnostic device. This breath test-based diagnostic system enables clinicians to quantitatively determine the individual liver function capacity within minutes. It allows for better risk assessment in liver surgery, better surgery planning and improved selection of treatment strategies for each patient’s liver status. The LiMAx test has been used more than 12,500 times in clinical practice. Humedics is currently conducting a phase III multi-center clinical trial for its test. Results are expected mid-2015.
