T-VIPS builds on DTT leadership with Antenna Hungaria contract win
T-VIPS to supply advanced video transport solutions for Antenna Hungaria's MinDig TV DVB-T Platform

Oslo, Norway - January 21 2009

T-VIPS AS, a global leader in professional video management and distribution, with advanced solutions for the contribution & distribution of broadcast quality video signals, today announced that its advanced video transport system is now live at MinDig TV, the new Hungarian DVB-T digital terrestrial TV (DTT) service which went live on 1st December, 2008. This contract extends T-VIPS' leadership in DTT and builds upon its success in the UK Digital Switch Off project.

MinDig TV is an advanced new DTT service, offering SD and HD channels encoded in MPEG-4. The service is distributed from transmitter sites in Budapest, Kabhegy and Szentes and is available to approximately 60% of Hungarian households.

'The T-VIPS video transport system enables us to make the most of our own nation-wide IP network to gain all the cost and flexibility advantages of IP contribution and distribution,' says Róbert Szvétecz, CTO, Antenna Hungaria. 'By choosing T-VIPS as our video transport partner, we get the industry's highest quality JPEG2000 and MPEG-4 contribution and distribution in a system that is powerful yet simple to operate and manage.'

The DTT system designed by T-VIPS for Antenna Hungaria includes its award-winning JPEG2000 video compression technology for the contribution of live video to the Budapest media centre. Lab tests have proven that the use of high-quality and low-latency JPEG2000 contribution can save up to 10% bandwidth on the final MPEG-4 transmission to the home, providing the opportunity to increase revenues through the addition of extra services.

T-VIPS has also supplied Antenna Hungaria with solutions for the distribution of the digital terrestrial MPEG-4 multiplex from Budapest to the three transmiter sites. This T-VIPS distribution solution uniquely utilises GPS locked transport over IP networks to support Single Frequency Network (SFN) operation, a technique invented and pioneered by T-VIPS and which is further evidence of the company's technical superiority in contribution and distribution for DTT network operators.

'By providing best-in-class components that are all designed to interoperate and which are controlled by our simple yet powerful Connect management system, we have provided Antenna Hungaria with a 'best of both worlds' video transport solution,' says Johnny Dolvik, CEO of T-VIPS. 'Once again we are proving our leading position in the DTT market and we look forward to continuing to play a part in the success of DVB-T services in Hungary.'

The T-VIPS video transport system deployed for Antenna Hungaria comprises the following solutions:

TVG415 - provides JPEG2000 compression of SDI signals enabling cost-effective transmission of high quality TV signals over Ethernet links
TVG420 - for the transmission of MPEG-2/4 transport streams over IP networks. The TVG420 takes advantage of the inherent flexibility of IP to offer broadcasters an efficient, cost-effective and scalable solution for MPEG video contribution over IP
TVG430 - For the transmission of HDTV signals over IP networks. The TVG430 utilises JPEG2000 compression to transmit HDTV signals over Ethernet links
Connect - provides a new concept for the management of contribution and distribution over IP networks. This solution makes it easy for operators to set-up and tear down connections and gives an overview of connection status as well as supervision of the video equipment in the network
