TPACK Announces New 80 Gbps Switch
TPX4004 First to Support Latest Carrier Ethernet Transport Standards

Copenhagen, Denmark - February 17, 2009, – TPACK ( today introduced the TPX4004 Carrier Packet Engine targeting packet transport applications such as MSPPs, MetroWDM, P-OTN and Carrier Ethernet Transport.

With up to 80 Gbps of switching capacity, a hierarchical traffic manager and extensive hardware-based OAM, the TPX4004 is ideal for any packet transport application. It is the only product available that fully supports universal linecard designs and the first 40nm-based Carrier Ethernet switching device on the market.

The TPX4004 is the first product to fully support the new MPLS-TP standard evolving from ITU-T/IETF as well as hardware-based OAM and protection schemes enabling true carrier class packet transport.

“TPACK’s model of supplying competitive, standard SOFTSILICON products such as the TPX4004 based on FPGAs is a good fit for the optical transport market segment,“ said Bob Wheeler, senior analyst at The Linley Group.

The TPX4004 is based on the TPACK SOFTSILICON approach, which provides unlimited interface options ranging from any mix of GE and 10GE to support for both Interlaken and SPI-4.2. This flexibility allows TPACK to quickly adapt a design for interworking with almost any switch fabric solution based on either merchant silicon or a proprietary design. Additionally, the TPX4004 can be used as a packet processor in universal linecard designs.

The TPX4004 takes full advantage of the low power consumption and extensive serial interface support provided by Altera’s new 40 nm Stratix® IV GX FPGAs.

“Altera’s Stratix IV GX family has been optimized for packet transport applications and TPACK has demonstrated their ability to deliver innovative solutions to compete against ASSPs, while offering advantages in flexibility,” said Arun Iyengar, senior director of Altera’s Communications Business Unit. “Targeting Stratix IV GX FPGAs enables TPACK to offer the highest-performance and lowest-power while bringing the industries’ first 40-nm based Carrier Ethernet Switch to the market.”
