Lord Karan Bilimoria to share challenges of restructuring business and joint venture

TiE UK (The Indus Entrepreneurs), the UK’s leading not-for-profit network for entrepreneurs, announced today that Lord Karan Bilimoria, CBE, Chairman of Cobra Beer Partnership and Founder of Cobra Beer, will be the Guest Speaker at their blockbuster event on 3 February 2010.

Lord Bilimoria will talk about the challenges that led to his business being restructured and the recent joint venture with one of the world’s leading global brewers, Molson Coors. Lord Bilimoria will speak on the importance of being adaptable and flexible while growing a business. He will also share his views on the current economic climate and what it means for businesses going forward. This event will be held at KPMG’s headquarters in the City of London.

Lord Bilimoria is a leading light of the UK beer industry. Born in Hyderabad, India, and having graduated from Cambridge, Lord Bilimoria achieved success and came to prominence as an entrepreneur at the age of 27 in 1989 through his development of Cobra Beer, a less gassy premium lager more suitable for drinking with curry and other foods that appeals to both ale and lager drinkers. In 1999 the company diversified and launched the General Bilimoria Wine brand, which is now the house wine of hundreds of restaurants, including being listed in top Michelin-starred restaurants. In May 2009 Cobra Beer went into administration and subsequently entered a joint partnership with one of the world’s leading global brewers, Molson Coors. Cobra Beer remains one of the UK’s fastest growing beer brands.

Bilimoria is a member of various prestigious organisations and has won a number of business awards. In 2004, he was awarded a CBE for services to business and in 2006 was chosen as a life peer, becoming the first ever Parsi to enter the House of Lords.
