Oxford Innovation selected to manage Silverstone Innovation Centre

23 May 2005 -- Silverstone Estates Ltd today announced that Oxford Innovation, the UK’s leading operator of innovation centres, has been appointed to manage Silverstone Innovation Centre. The £4.2m Centre, a joint venture between British Racing Drivers Club and the East Midlands Development Agency designed to house up to 40 high performance engineering start-up and growing companies, is attracting strong interest and seven companies will have moved in by early June.

Oxford Innovation provides business support services to innovators and entrepreneurs ranging from flexible premises for over 300 companies in 12 innovation centres to help with raising finance through business angel investment networks.

Dr David Kingham, Chief Executive of Oxford Innovation, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been selected to manage Silverstone Innovation Centre. Our ambition is to develop a leading Innovation Centre on this iconic site for British motorsport. Our aim is for the Centre to be a hub of entrepreneurial activity and a key player in the development of Silverstone Technology Park and the Silverstone circuit.

Through Silverstone Innovation Centre we will provide vital support designed to meet the real needs of entrepreneurs and boost business growth. The client companies here can benefit from a range of suites on flexible terms and access to finance from private investors, as well as practical business advice and regular networking events. And we offer a virtual office service for businesses that are not yet ready to move in.

We are holding an Open Day on 27 May for companies and members of the local community wishing to view the suites on offer and find out more about the business support available through Silverstone Innovation Centre.”

Alex Hooton, Chief Executive of British Racing Drivers Club, said: “We congratulate Oxford Innovation on their selection as managers of Silverstone Innovation Centre. They bring a mix of specialist skills and entrepreneurial flair to the project, to benefit start-up and growing companies. We look forward to working with Oxford Innovation to make Silverstone Innovation Centre an outstanding success.”

Sue MacDonald, Director of Business Services at East Midlands Development Agency, said: “Silverstone Innovation Centre is a wonderful asset for the region. The high growth, motorsport businesses supported through the Centre will generate jobs, providing a real boost for the regional economy.”

Companies that have moved in include: Crash dot Net Ltd a web development agency specialising in the automotive and motorsport industries. Crash are also the publishers of the world’s leading motorsport portal that has recently been named ‘Official Media Partner’ of the British F3 and GT Championships. Their prestigious clients include MG Rover, SEAT, Ford, MSN, Yahoo, Tiscali, SKY and Vodafone.

Bryn Williams, Managing Director of Crash dot Net, said: “We decided at a very early stage to move into Silverstone Innovation Centre because the site is the home of British Motorsport and a focal point for motorsport the world over. We are delighted to be the first company to move into the Innovation Centre and have already benefited from being based here by signing up four new clients. Having Oxford Innovation managing the facility will bring even more credibility to the Centre.'

Dragon2000 has chosen the Centre to accommodate its rapid growth. The company is one of the UK’s leading producers of dealer management software systems with over 2,300 customers including many of the country’s franchises, car supermarkets, used car specialists and independent workshops. Mark Cooper, Managing Director of Dragon2000, said: “We moved to Silverstone Innovation Centre so we can provide a better service to our growing customer base. Additionally, we have agreed a long term growth strategy that fits perfectly with our needs as a growing company. The first phase sees us move
