Iris Capital invests in LightSand to finance market expansion

Milpitas, July 1, 2005. LightSand Communications, Inc., a company pioneering SAN connectivity solutions, announced today that it has raised US$ 6.85 million to support its worldwide market expansion. Iris Capital lead the new investment round with the participation of LC Capital and of existing investors Baring Private Equity, Concord Ventures, Fremont Ventures, Genesis Partners.

LightSand is a global leader in the development and delivery of SAN connectivity products that can be used to interconnect multiple SANs regardless of physical proximity or vendor disparity. The company’s SAN extension gateways work within the data center and over MAN/WAN networks to interconnect SANs over distance using SONET/SDH, DWDM, ATM, IP and dedicated fiber networks. These extension capabilities provide an ideal platform for deploying business continuance, disaster recovery, centralized backup, enterprise resource sharing, remote mirroring and other critical business applications.

LightSand’s revolutionary i-Switch provides the ability to segment large SANs into semiautonomous regions. This feature enables organizations to partition a single large SAN fabric into multiple smaller fabrics, resulting in greater performance and manageability. Despite this partitioning, the i-Switch technology allows the SAN regions to share specified resources. The result is a SAN infrastructure with the manageability of a small fabric and the resource efficiency of a large fabric. The i-Switch also has the ability to interconnect heterogeneous SAN fabrics, providing the ability to share SAN resources between dissimilar SAN infrastructures over the LAN/MAN/WAN.

« Over the last few years, LightSand has developed unique and powerful SAN connectivity solutions which will contribute significantly in helping companies address the increasing security and compliance issues they face today more than ever before, declared Richard Czech, CEO of LightSand. After the initial phases which have seen LightSand develop revolutionary technology and secure strategic partnerships with large storage vendors and sign OEM agreement with leading Telco vendor, this new round of financing will enable us to launch a new phase of worldwide market expansion to become the first leading independent supplier of SAN Routing & Connectivity solutions.
