Apax Partners publishes innovation review - "Pathways to success: a taxonomy of innovation"
WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM ANNOUNCES 2006's "TECHNOLOGY PIONEERS"

Geneva, Switzerland/London, UK, 5 December 2005 - The World Economic Forum announced today 36 visionary companies selected as 2006's 'Technology Pioneers'. To be selected as a Technology Pioneer, a company must be involved in the development of life-changing technology innovation and have potential for long-term impact on business and society. In addition, it must demonstrate visionary leadership, show the signs of being a long-standing market leader - and its technology must be proven. Previous Technology Pioneers have included: Autonomy, Cambridge Silicon Radio, Encore Software, Google, Millennium Pharmaceuticals and Napster.

Apax Partners, the leading global private equity firm and a Strategic Partner of the World Economic Forum and the Technology Pioneer programme, published today the fourth of its Technology Pioneers reports, 'Pathways to success: a taxonomy of innovation' produced in association with the Economist Intelligence Unit.

Richard Wilson, Partner at Apax Partners Worldwide LLP and Head of its European Tech and Telecom team, said: 'Four styles of innovation emerge from this year's Technology Pioneers: incremental - continuous improvement of existing technology; modular - using new technology for existing applications; architectural - applying existing technology in new combinations; and radical - totally new technology to solve new problems. These areas of Technology Pioneer innovation are evident across technology, telecommunications, biotechnology and alternative energy sources. The Technology Pioneers are an increasingly important annual barometer of technology developments.'

The 2006 Technology Pioneers' products range from real 3D screens to fuel cell motorbikes and intelligent prosthetics. A full list and analysis of the companies and their pioneering technologies is available in the Apax Partners report 'Pathways to success' available in PDF format on www.apax.com.

About the Technology Pioneers Programme

Once selected, Technology Pioneers are fully integrated into Forum activities, and can meet with scientist, academics, NGOs, and Forum members and partners to discuss and debate the impact of technology innovation on society and business.
