Carbon nanotubes specialist Nanocyl expands into North America

Sambreville, Belgium, 3 July 2006 – European carbon nanotubes leader Nanocyl recently extended its presence to the North American market with a sales office based in Boston, Massachussets. This extension is the result of a partnership between Nanocyl and the specialty polymers company Vantage Resin Systems.

US Office
Because of the importance of the North American market for the commercialisation of carbon nanotubes, European carbon nanotubes specialist Nanocyl opened a Boston-based US sales office earlier this year. In order to make this happen, Nanocyl signed a collaboration agreement with Vantage Resin Systems, a specialty polymers company led by Mr Andrew Rich. The launch of Nanocyl’s US office represents a new important stage in the further development of Nanocyl as one of the key players in the production of carbon nanotubes on a worldwide level.

The first target end-use for NC7000 carbon nanotubes is to impart electrical conductivity to thermoplastics. The key responsibilities of Mr Rich and Vantage Resin Systems are to grow Nanocyl's US business by working closely with US-based companies in the key end-user markets such as automotive, industrial, semicon, aerospace, sports equipment and refining industries.

Andy Rich and Vantage Resin Systems will also make a strong push into the area of composites where carbon nanotubes potentially can act as mechanical reinforcement. The unique properties of carbon nanotubes will also open the door to other applications – such as long-life batteries and mobile fuel cells – where research is rapidly moving to commercially viable products.

“The opening of a US office is crucial for the further development of Nanocyl as a worldwide player in the commercialisation of carbon nanotubes”, says Mr Francis Massin, Managing Director of Nanocyl. “We strongly believe that there is a large market opportunity for Nanocyl in the US and that Andy Rich and Vantage Resin Systems are the right partner to not only seize these market opportunities for Nanocyl, but also to ensure our long-term market development in the US.”

About Carbon nanotubes
A Carbon Nanotube is a tube-shaped material, made of graphitic carbon, that has a diameter measuring on the nanometre scale (a nanometre is one one-billionth of a meter, or about one ten-thousandth of the thickness of a human hair). Carbon nanotubes typically have a diameter ranging from below 1 nm up to 50 nm; and lengths of from 100 to 1000 times than their diameter. They possess properties of high electrical conductivity, high thermal conductivity, exceptional mechanical strength and the ability to be chemically modified.

About Nanocyl
Nanocyl is a company, founded in February 2002 and supported by individual and institutional investors. The purpose of Nanocyl is to develop new business for the supply of specialty carbon nanotubes or carbon nanotubes-based products from an existing and expanding portfolio of intellectual property.

Nanocyl is one of the first companies to be established in Europe for the commercial supply of this family of novel materials. Currently, pilot production is dedicated to associated laboratories and selected industrial partners. Nanocyl is investing in production equipment, laboratories and process development at its facility in order to supply commercial quantities of carbon nanotubes. Nanocyl’s new industrial site will be operational early 2007. For more information, please visit the company’s website at
