ApaTech announces official opening of headquarters and manufacturing facility

20 September 2006 -- ApaTech, a global leader in synthetic bone graft technologies, today announces the official opening of its groundbreaking manufacturing facility and new international headquarters at Elstree, UK. The opening, conducted by Lord Sainsbury of Turville, the Minister for Science and Innovation, will see a gathering of industry leaders, civic dignitaries and leading members of the orthopaedic and neurosurgeon community from the UK, Europe and the USA. Guests attended a seminar on the implications of changing orthopaedic practice for patients, healthcare payers, provider institutions and for investors in novel medical technology companies. Factory tours and product demonstrations are also included in the official opening.

The 10,000 sq feet facility is the focus for the global supply of Actifuse, ApaTech’s leading bone graft substitute, and has a capacity equivalent to over £30m of sales. Its novel materials flow system is fully integrated into a BSI approved clean room environment, and includes warehouse and dispatch capabilities for product supply around the world.

Simon Cartmell, Chief Executive Officer of ApaTech commented: ‘This exciting move from our academic foundation to this impressive and pioneering facility completes the cultural transformation of ApaTech into a fully fledged international commercial organisation. For many in the medical world we hope this will have provided new insights into the improvement our products make to patients’ lives’.

Lord Sainsbury, Minister for Science and Innovation said ‘ApaTech is a first class example of how leading British academic science can be made into world-beating products through a successful partnership of private equity and experienced management’.
