Old Skool, New Class

Aarhus, Denmark and London, UK. January 22nd. Mobile entertainment publisher Kiloo and Commodore Gaming today announced an agreement to develop a number of popular C64 games on the new generation of mobile phone handsets.

Kiloo ApS and Commodore Gaming BV will co-publish over twenty classic titles from the hugely influential and widely-loved Commodore 64 back catalogue over the next 36 months. This will be the first time that these gaming favourites become available on the mobile platform.

The first three titles in this legendary line-up are:
Jupiter Lander, an addictive precision game demanding excellent thruster skills to navigate and land on the platforms in varying treacherous environments.

Triad, a highly imaginative game that combines strategic noughts and crosses (Tic Tac Toe) with space shooting action, resulting in varied battles to the death for each square on the grid.

Jack Attack, a surreal experience that will have you guide your little critter around various levels, moving bricks around to crush your smiling green foes.

The majority of the titles that are going to be published were originally released for the C64 in the early and mid-1980s, during the first home computer revolution, which introduced many people to video games for the first time. Today, the C64 and its titles have reached legendary status. A new release platform is the opportunity to re-imagine and offer new features for each title. This will allow new and existing gamers to experience the magic that has created websites, communities and forums dedicated to the machine and the games created for it.

Jacob Möller, the chief executive officer of Kiloo, says, 'Retro gaming is a very significant part of the whole mobile games market. The simplicity and classic game play appeals to players who recognise the titles from the originals. Commodore and the C64 were responsible for defining much of the early videogames market and the popularity of the machine can still be seen today, with fans all over the world. We are honoured to be working with Commodore Gaming to bring these titles to a whole new generation of gamers and give mobile owners worldwide the chance to revisit or enjoy for the first time, titles from the golden age of gaming.'

Bala Keilman, CEO at Commodore Gaming, agrees. 'Mobile phones represent an entirely new platform for games, one which is open to huge number of people in a way that no dedicated console can begin to match. By working with Kiloo to bring a number of titles from the C64 to the global mobile market, we can use an innovative way to encourage people who would never otherwise consider themselves 'gamers', to try classic titles, which are simple, accessible and timeless.'

More information, including release dates, handset support, languages, territories, mobile networks, etc. will be issued by Kiloo in the near future.
