Top venture capitalist Jon Moulton headlines launch of groundbreaking Enterprise Capital Fund

22 January 2007 -- Renowned venture capitalist and business angel Jon Moulton will be the keynote speaker at the formal launch of the £30 million Sustainable Technology Enterprise Capital Fund (ECF).

The founder and managing partner of leading investment firm Alchemy Partners will join David Quysner, chairman of the Capital for Enterprise board and an audience of venture capitalists, private and corporate investors, entrepreneurs and intermediaries for the launch.

Mr Moulton is a long-standing private investor in E-Synergy which last year beat off stiff competition to win management of the ECF, one of the first to be set up under the Government’s flagship Enterprise Capital Fund initiative which seeks to combine private sector money and expertise with public funding to promote high-growth UK businesses.

E-Synergy will use the event to announce details of its first investment in a British company with the potential to develop and commercialise world-leading technology.

The launch of the ECF comes at a time when there is an increasing global focus on companies that are developing new, clean and efficient industrial processes across all sectors of industry.

E-Synergy chief executive Andrew Stevenson said the successful launch of the ECF showed the huge potential of the initiative to bring new capital and value-added investment into the ‘equity gap’ – the difficulty businesses have raising investments of between £250,000 and £2 million which are sums typically too small for venture capitalists but too large for funding from friends or family.

“This is the only ECF focused on high growth companies across the UK which are seeking to develop and commercialise world-leading sustainable technology products and services,” he said.

“The first investment is important but we are already working hard to provide a pipeline of innovative and profitable businesses that will help promote jobs and economic growth in the future.”

E-Synergy will launch the Sustainable Technology ECF at The Walkway, Tower Bridge, London, on Wednesday 24th January.

About E-Synergy Ltd
E-Synergy specialises in adding value to early stage high technology companies. Through a combination of seed finance, training and management and marketing support, we provide entrepreneurs and company managers with opportunities for accelerated growth and commercial success.

The company was founded in 1999 by the CEOs of four major technology development and licensing organisations, to fill the investment gap which exists between business angel investors and conventional venture capital companies. The founding directors all have many years’ experience and success in the commercial exploitation of technology in UK and international markets.

An important aspect of our investment process is to help new technology companies to acquire the business and commercial skills necessary for growth and success.

    About the ECF Scheme

Enterprise Capital Funds are designed to be commercial funds, investing a combination of private and public money in small high-growth businesses that are seeking up to £2 million of equity finance. The Government provides up to two thirds of the capital in each ECF, in return for a preferred return of 4.5%, and a limited share in any profits of the fund. The preferred return is intended to cover the Government’s cost of capital. In a longer term programme the profit share from successful funds should offset any losses on unsuccessful funds, leading to a broadly cost neutral programme.
