Helping to Grow a Flourishing Cleantech Industry in Germany with a natural Center in Munich

Munich, February 01, 2007 - The Munich Network and TVM Capital today announced the foundation of a new Special Interest Group working within the Munich Network and focusing on encouraging and supporting Clean Technologies to succeed and grow from idea to world class businesses.

The group, initiated by TVM Capital, consists of five Venture Capital firms 3i, Atlas Venture, Fraunhofer-Venture-Gruppe, Munich Venture Partners and TVM Capital and two of the leading technology providers GE Global Research and Siemens, is interested in ensuring that Germany capitalizes on its incredible lead in the deployment of environmental technologies. “Germany has more Solar PV installations, biogas plants, biodiesel and pure plant oil acceptance and wind generated electricity than any other country in the world. This should provide the ideal platform from which to build a flourishing Cleantech Industry”, explained Robert Schrimpff from TVM Capital.

In 2006 the Cleantech industry in Europe attracted investments around $ 600 million. Compared with an investment volume of $ 2.9 billion in North America in the same investment period Germany is faced with major challenges to defend the technology base of this important future market. According to Roland Berger’s outlook Clean Technologies will accumulate 16 % of the entire business volume in 2030.

“By working together to create the right ecosystem we aim to establish a German Cleantech Network that attracts, encourages and creates new companies developing world class technologies. The list of successful IPOs of German Cleantech companies headed by Qcells, SolarWorld, Conergy and Repower is proof for high-performance potential in Germany”, explains Curt Winnen of the Munich Network

The group will work together to encourage and support early stage companies, promising technologies and ambitious entrepreneurs.

The next networking meeting is scheduled for February 27, 2007. Entrepreneurs, Investors, Scientists and managers interested in or already working in Cleantech are encouraged to join. Please contact Munich Network for details of upcoming events.
