GIMV confirms its commitment to clean technology
and raises its investment to Emerald Cleantech fund to €30 million

April 13, 2007 -- GIMV announces that it will commit another EUR 18 million to the cleantech fund of Emerald Technology Ventures, raising its total commitment to EUR 30 million. Furthermore GIMV expresses its ambition to become a European player in the VC niche of cleantech investments.

“As part of the implementation of our strategy we decided last year to expand our European activities, both what geographical regions and activities are concerned. From this perspective we already launched initiatives to expand our activities throughout Europe and we are also continuously seeking to make use of new future-oriented areas besides our current investment areas in venture capital notably ICT and Life Sciences. As we believe the cleantech segment is a promising VC niche, this sector received our special attention from the start. Today, we confirm our ambitions in this promising sector, with our commitment to Emerald Technology Ventures as a first step,” says Dirk Boogmans CEO GIMV.

Following its initial investments in Bioro (via Biodiesel Holding) and its initial commitment of EUR 12 million to the new Emerald cleantech fund, GIMV is now increasing its commitment to the fund to EUR 30 million. The fund, of which GIMV now becomes the corner stone investor, is managed by Emerald Technology Ventures (www.emerald-ventures.com), a global leader in cleantech Venture Capital, who is investing in early and expansion stage companies, primarily located in Europe and North America. Founded under the name SAM Private Equity, Emerald is a pioneer in this rapidly emerging sector focusing on innovative technologies in energy, materials and water. From offices in Zurich (Switzerland) and Montreal (Canada) Emerald manages about EUR 285 million. Emerald is looking for energetic and passionate entrepreneurs with the vision to build world-class clean technology companies.

'Our increased commitment to the cleantech sector confirms our interest in this venture capital niche. The objective is to become a significant cleantech venture capitalist in Europe by leveraging on the one hand on the technology expertise of Emerald Technology Ventures, and on the other hand on the available private equity know how within GIMV-group. It is a tested approach within GIMV venture capital to start up new business activities via a partnership with a leading sector fund. Moreover this will create as well co-investment opportunities as access to deal flow for direct investment opportunities in the cleantech sector,' comments Dirk Beeusaert, Executive Vice President Business Development GIMV.

GIMV will create a new business unit within its venture capital activities, next to ICT and Life Sciences, and is currently recruiting sector specialists. The start up and further development of this business unit will be actively supported by Emerald Technology Ventures.

Since its incorporation in 1980 GIMV has grown into Belgium's most important venture capital provider and companybuilder. GIMV has now become a major European and international market player. Both in Belgium and abroad, GIMV invests in information and communication technology, life sciences as well as in growth financing and management buyouts (MBOs) of companies in more traditional sectors. GIMV currently manages around EUR 1.5 billion of assets (including third party funds). GIMV has been listed on Euronext Brussels since 1997. For more information on GIMV, please go to www.gimv.com.
