Imperial Innovations notes the success of its portfolio companies at The Engineer Awards 2007

The Engineer Awards

Imperial Innovations Group plc (AIM: IVO) is pleased to note the success of the following Imperial Innovations companies, technologies and entrepreneurs at a ceremony held on Friday 21 September to celebrate The Engineer Technology & Innovation Awards 2007.

Ionscope, a microscope technology company in which Imperial Innovations owns a 29.5% stake, has been awarded the University Spin-Out award. This award recognises excellence in a business formed within the last five years to commercially exploit a technical innovation, product, process or centre of expertise originally conceived within a university.

The Engineer’s Special Award for Outstanding Personal Achievement in technology and innovation was presented to Professor Colin Caro of Imperial College, founder of technology companies Heliswirl Technologies and Veryan Medical in which Imperial Innovations’ shareholding is 18.9% and 37.6% respectively. This award recognises Caro’s distinguished contribution to physiological and medical research and, more recently, the wide range of potential engineering applications that have arisen from his work.

Lontra, a start-up developing a new type of compressor and engine, which is in receipt of ongoing incubation support from Imperial Innovations, was runner-up for the Start-up and University Collaboration category. This category recognises excellence in such collaborations between a start-up business and a university. Imperial Innovations has a 19.6% shareholding in Lontra.

Imperial College graduates Christian Fellowes and Ryan Kerstein were also shortlisted for the Graduate Innovator Award for their disposable medical tourniquet innovation, which Imperial Innovations is in the process of commercialising.
