TPACK and Turin Networks collaborate on 10 Gbps Carrier Ethernet

TPACK and Turin Networks today formally announced that the two companies are collaborating on Carrier Ethernet switching and transport solutions. The joint development efforts between these two established Carrier Ethernet industry leaders places particular emphasis on advanced, connection-oriented Carrier Ethernet as well as 10 Gbps layer 2 packet switching and traffic management.

This collaboration resulted in Turin Networks recently introducing 10-Gigabit Ethernet switching and transport modules for the company’s flagship Traverse® Multiservice Transport Switch Product Family. Turin’s Traverse is the industry’s first packet optical platform to scale from 1Mbps to 10Gbps, supporting MEF 9 and MEF 14-certified compliant Carrier Ethernet services over SONET and SDH. The Traverse is the industry’s leading solution that enables service providers to increase optical network capacity and migrate from TDM to Ethernet switching and transport in the same platform.

The joint development takes advantage of TPACK’s TPX3000 series of Carrier Packet Engines, which support 40 Gbps full-duplex switching solutions with integrated traffic management, and provides the optional ability to simultaneously support a number of packet protocols, such as MPLS, VPLS, PWE3, PBB-TE/PBT and T-MPLS. The TPACK TPW48-P packet mapper also supports the aggregation of both Ethernet over NG-PDH and Ethernet over NG-SONET/SDH connections.

“With TPACK’s FPGA-based solutions, we can achieve faster time-to-market with new features, while also retaining the flexibility to adapt to changes in standards or new technology developments. TPACK has proven to be a valuable technology partner in supporting our vision for the Turin Traverse® family”, Colm O’ Brien, VP PLM, Turin Networks.

“We are proud to be collaborating with Turin Networks, which is taking full advantage of TPACK capabilities to realize a strong vision for the future. Turin Networks has already established itself as a leading provider of solutions that enable seamless migration from TDM to carrier Ethernet. With the introduction of our latest 3rd generation solutions, we will assist Turin Networks in maintaining this leadership”, Peter Viereck, CEO, TPACK.

TPACK provides FPGA-based solutions with integrated software that enable telecom equipment providers to rapidly develop Carrier Ethernet switching and transport systems. This includes Ethernet/MPLS over SONET/SDH, PDH and OTN, as well as VPLS, PBT and T-MPLS. TPACK solutions can be adapted to meet customer specific needs without sacrificing time-to-market. TPACK's customer base includes Tier 1 equipment providers who account for more than 60% of the optical transport equipment market. TPACK is headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark.
